Introduction to Syngas
The calorific value of SynGas is only one third that of natural gas, which may limit opportunities to sell the gas to existing local power plants. Therefore, power will be initially produced on site without carbon capture, using gas turbine generators modified to run on SynGas, and exported to the National Grid. It is anticipated that up to 50 MW of capacity, a breakpoint in power station licensing regulations, would be installed at an early stage of the development. Once the economic conditions for full carbon capture and storage are established, the generation capacity will be increased using either Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) or Oxyfuel Combustion plants.
