The world demand for energy is increasing year on year and traditional sources of fuel, such as oil & gas reserves are becoming harder to find and more difficult to exploit. Alternatives such as biofuels and wind farms have their own unique constraints and the nuclear debate continues. Coal is an abundant natural resource but the days when traditional deep mines were commercially viable and open cast developments environmentally acceptable have passed.
