SECURITY OF SUPPLY

As oil and gas reserves decline in the North Sea, the UK and Europe are looking to politically hostile regions to power our future. This brings with it issues of security of supply, and affordability of supply. The West African countries have historically been very difficult for oil companies to operate in and from time to time have been subject to political instability. The Middle East is as dependant on the export of oil and gas as we are on its imports, but the changing political climate may lead to this import being on less favorable terms. Vladimir Putin’s Russia while being closest to Europe may well be the biggest threat to security of supply – in recent years we’ve seen the nationalization of domestic and international oil company assets, the re-routing of gas and oil exports from Europe to China and substantial price increases forced on countries dependant on Russia for their supply.

The UK government recognize the threat, and will in time invest in nuclear power generation, but this, nor wind farms solve the supply issue for transport fuels and chemical feedstocks, syngas from UCG does.

ACHEIVABLE RESOURCES >>

Developed now, the extenive coal reserves in the UK and the rest of Europe can safeguard our energy future into the next century and beyond. BCG Energy plans to develop three commercial onshore prospects in the near term.

The application of technology and techniques developed in the oil & gas industry will allow exploitation of the extensive coal measures under the North Sea, removing much of the reliance on foreign imports.

Our developments are based on each site being able to produce syngas at a rate equivalent to 20,00bpd of oil for up to 30 years. The sites have been selected for their geological characteristics, the availability of industrial land on which to build the well site and process plant and their proximity to potential markets.

Coal is an abundant natural resource but the days when traditional deep mines were commercially viable and open cast developments environmentally acceptable have passed. Underground Coal Gasification (UCG) is a viable commercial and environmental option which could provide a sustainable and secure supply for our energy requirements for at least 150 years.
