Introduction to Carbon Capture & Storage. Unlike traditional coal mining, or oil and gas projects, Underground Coal Gasifiction can undertake carbon capture and sequestration and still remain price competitive.

Looking to the future, Carbon Capture and Storage is the main focus point with all fossil fuels and UCG offers perhaps the easiest and most effective method of capturing and permanently containing CO2. UCG is a gasification process which has all the advantages of pre-combustion processing, i.e. smaller capture plant, lower operating costs. In addition, the porous voids created in the coal seam after the UCG process is complete, are a potential storage location for CO2. Depending on the products produced from the syngas, carbon capture can either be pre, or post combustion. Where hydrogen fuels and power from hydrogen are the products, carbon capture will be pre-combusion, elsewhere we intend to use oxygen fired combustion technices which will make the post combustion capture of CO2 so much easier.




CAPTURE TECHNIQUES >>


	The UCG process allows BCG Energy to use either post or pre-combustion carbon caputre techiques. Where hydrogen is produced from the syngas the cardon capture will be done prior to combustion.	Linked with carbon capture and sequestration, Underground Coal Gasification (UCG) has the potential to provide a secure source of environmentally friendly energy for decades to come. .

STORAGE OPTIONS >>

	Initially our UCG sites are in areas of existing gas or oil fields. We plan to use the CO2 produced as a drive for enhanced oil or gas production. Later the UCG cavity and surrounding rocks will be used for CCS.

CARBON CREDITS >>

	Currently the Carbon Credits schemes are well below the cost of actually capturing, transporting and storing the CO2, making it unlikely that other fossil fuel sources will volunteer to undertake CCS.
